UGC NET 2025 Exam Latest Updates

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the UGC NET 2025 City Intimation Slip approximately 10 days before the exam. Candidates can download the slip from ugcnet.nta.ac.in using their login credentials. The admit card will be available for download around 3–4 days prior to the exam.

UGC NET 2025 Notification

NTA released the UGC NET June 2025 notification on 16th April 2025. The application window was open from 16th April to 8th May 2025. The UGC NET 2025 exam is tentatively scheduled from 21st June to 30th June. The exam determines eligibility for Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor roles in Indian colleges and universities.

What is UGC NET?

UGC NET is a national-level eligibility test conducted by the NTA to select candidates for:

  • Assistant Professorship

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)

  • Ph.D. admissions (from 2025 onwards)

NTA conducts the exam twice a year across 83 subjects. It was previously conducted by CBSE until June 2018.

  • Notification Release: 16 April 2025

  • Application Start: 16 April 2025

  • Last Date to Apply & Pay Fee: 8 May 2025

  • Application Correction: 9–10 May 2025

  • Exam Dates: 21–30 June 2025 (Tentative)

How to Apply for UGC NET 2025

  1. Visit ugcnet.nta.ac.in

  2. Click on the 'Application Form' link.

  3. Register as a new user.

  4. Fill in personal, academic and other details.

  5. Upload photo (10–200kb) and signature (4–30kb).

  6. Pay the application fee:

    • General: ₹1150

    • OBC-NCL: ₹600

    • SC/ST/PwD/Transgender: ₹325

  7. Submit the form and download confirmation.

UGC NET 2025 Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Postgraduate degree with minimum 55% marks (50% for reserved categories).

  • Age Limit:

    • JRF: Not more than 30 years (relaxation applicable).

    • Assistant Professor: No upper age limit.

  • Final-year PG students and four-year bachelor's students (final year/semester) are also eligible.

UGC NET for PhD Admissions

From 2025, UGC NET results will also be used for PhD admissions:

  • Admission based on NET score + interview/viva voce.

  • Validity of score: 1 year.

UGC NET Exam Pattern 2025

  • Mode: Offline (OMR)

  • Duration: 3 hours (combined)

  • Papers: Two (Paper 1 and Paper 2)

  • Questions: 150 MCQs (No negative marking)

    • Paper 1 (50 Qs) – Teaching/Research Aptitude

    • Paper 2 (100 Qs) – Subject-specific
